Our History

Small Beginnings

The Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church began its presence in North America in the mid-20th century, as clergy and laity from Kerala arrived for education and employment. As immigration increased, the Church expanded across North America.

A New Chapter: Diocese of Canada

Recognizing the steady growth and unique needs of the Canadian faithful, the Holy Episcopal Synod and the Malankara Association Managing Committee recommended the formation of an independent Canadian Diocese. With the blessing of His Holiness Baselios Marthoma Mathews III, the Diocese of Canada was officially established on November 1, 2024, as announced through Kalpana No. 267/2024.

His Grace Zachariah Mar Nicholovos was appointed as the Assistant Metropolitan of the Diocese of Canada, under the leadership of the Catholicos of the East and Malankara Metropolitan.

Today, the Diocese of Canada includes parishes and missions across multiple provinces, serving a growing Orthodox community rooted in faith, tradition, and the apostolic witness of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church.
